Though it was invented in Japan (where you find many bars dedicated to it), karaoke became famous all over the world!!
Karaoke, (/ˌkæriˈoʊki/, Japanese: [kaɾaoke]; カラオケ, a clipped compound of Japanese kara 空 "empty" and ōkesutora オーケストラ "orchestra"), is a form of interactive entertainment or video game developed in which an amateur singer sings along with recorded music (a music video) using a microphone.
Now, singing along with your favorite song can bring you many advantages as a language learner!! Check out the following tips to have fun and learn with karaoke:

KEEP THE PACE!!!
The musicality of songs will teach you pronunciation and how to link words beautifully ! You may find some homophones, silent letters, minimal pairs and more things which will help you improving your pronounciation. But be careful! Stick to a pattern (either British, Canadian, American English or other) when you choose songs and bear in mind singers sometimes drastically change the intonation of words.
HAVE FUN!!!
There are plenty of karaoke apps, sites and youtube channels for you to enjoy! You DO NOT need to be a professional singer to sing! Cool, isn't it?! You can sing off-pitch and laugh at it!! Karaoke is all about having fun not singing beautifully. But if practice takes you to the next level, why not showing off at a karaoke bar? I always record myself singing. It is much enjoyable! Allow yourself to experience it!
SURRENDER TO THE LYRICS
Now, if you are an advanced learner, deep reading the lyrics is a great activity! They are full of double meanings, deep thinking and unusual vocabulary. Even shallow ones will probably teach you a couple of new words and expressions! You can also use forums and some sites to unreavel the messages in the songs.
